Driven or Obsessed

Many of us believe that we are intrinsically programmed by nature, and on the other hand we believe that we have so many traits influenced by nurture. In these Podcasts we hear the stories of different people that are extremely driven in more ways than one.

Driven or Obsessed - Episode 1

Hard Work and Baby Steps
Panicos Yusuf

During our debut episode we learn about the mindset and life of Panicos Yusuf, a 3 times World Champion Thai Boxer who originated from Cyprus and now lives in Manchester, England.

Starting from humble beginnings, Panicos now runs a successful Thai boxing gym in Manchester and is contracted as a fighter with One Championship, which is one of the World’s largest martial arts platforms. We learn about the milestone moments that led him to his success and happiness, about his ethos of hard-work and taking baby-steps.

Hear how for Panicos the most important step is the step forward, taking action.

Driven or Obsessed - Episode 2

Winning the Race
Richard Beardsell

During our second episode we meet Rick Beardsell. Holding 10 masters gold medals for the GB running team and 3 world records, Rick is also the CEO of a million-pound business and a recent cancer survivor. We learn about the methods and motivations that Rick has employed throughout his life.

Rick currently runs Shakesphere, the company responsible for the world’s best drinks shaker. We learn about the challenges he experienced through this and other business ventures; a journey that ranged between him turning over 100k a month to being homeless.

Hear how Rick utilised the power of being driven and positive-minded to overcome obstacles, and achieve an array of accolades that would be amazing individually but are staggering as a group.

Driven or Obsessed - Episode 3

Why bother if you don’t want to be the best
Brendan Loughnane

During our third episode we hear about the obsession that Brendan Loughnane has for Mixed Martial Arts. Having fought on some of the biggest stages in the world, including the Ultimate Fighter at twenty years old, Brendan has an unusual drive. We learn about his dedication and how this Manchester born and bred fighter trains perpetually to remain top of his game.

As a child observing the work ethic of his mother and father, who often had to leave for work early and come home late, Brendan saw that hard work was important. Using the shining example of his parents he applied this ethos to training, using his enthusiasm and commitment to become one of the most revered MMA fighters in the West.

Hear how Brendan lives his life day-to-day, and be sure to follow him on social media to see how the journey continues. We expect to see even greater things yet from Brendan.

Driven or Obsessed - Episode 4

I didn't have a right to be sad
Lewis Schofield

Listen to the amazing story of a social worker in Greater Manchester. In my eyes, Lewis Schofield is one of society’s many unsung heroes. Lewis offers us some insight into the perceptions and mentalities that relate to social work, discussing his work with people at risk of harming themselves and the complexities of helping those prone to alcohol and drug misuse. We also hear about Lewis’s time supporting families at the Christies NHS Foundation Trust.

What does it take for someone to decide to do this amazingly important yet lowly paid work? Where does the motivation to enter such a profession stem from, and how do such workers cope with constant immersion in other people’s trauma?

Now more than ever is the time to give voice to such important stories, allowing us a better understanding of the people that help others in our society.
